Peter is hurt, and it’s all Tony’s fault. There’s no way they can win this, no way at all. It’s all lost. Because Tony didn’t do enough.
Because Tony wasn’t clever enough, fast enough, brave enough.
And as always, others are paying for his mistakes.
“Tony.“ A voice behind him. The most beautiful voice. The most terrible, too, but not right now.
“Steve,” he sobs, and it’s as if he’s saying I love you.
Steve walks over to him, kneels to the ground next to him. He hugs him, tight, like he’s never done before.
“We’ll fix this, Tony. We’ll fix it together.”
And it’s as if he’s saying I love you, too.
